Amelia's Summer Sangria with Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube

With summer coming up what better way to enjoy the sunshine as well as the world cup with a light, refreshing, fruity Sangria.

This one I did with the Jamie Oliver team at the Iberica Restaurant in Faringdon, is based loosely on the classic red wine sangria.. but with a few peachy and spicy extras to give it a fun twist.

Definitely embrace free styling with this drink. However as a rough guide, keep in mind you will need to include a mixture of the below:

Wine: With any wine based cocktail this is a pretty essential ingredient. Don’t worry about getting a fancy Rioja, as long as it is fruity, red and Spanish – then pour it in!

The Hard Stuff:  A fact that I didn’t realise is that most Sangria is actually spiked with something a bit harder than table wine! Try experimenting with brandy, vodka or even Curacao to give it a satisfying orangey kick.

Mixers: The most traditional mixer is orange juice or soda water. However if you want to make it sweeter you can always add  grape juice and lemonade is a more exciting alternative to rather bland tasting soda water…..

Fruits, spices and Sweeteners: Depending on what you have already mixed in your jug you may not need sweeteners. However always use seasonal fruit and I love using just a pinch of cinnamon to give a lovely warm depth to the juicy fruit.

HOWEVER..this recipe is NOT set in stone… so please go forth, have fun muddling, mixing and making Sangria mayhem! And if you come across a particularly enticing combo, then definitely mail me at wine@ameliasinger.com and tell me about it!
